31 Best Cannabis Accessories Available Now (2021)
The Storz & Bickel Desktop Vaporizer âVolcanoâ stands out because it was the original vaporizer that in 2000 forever changed the course of stoner history.
Two decades later, the Volcano is still widely regarded as one of the best weed vaporizers ever made.
If you know any serious cannabis connoisseurs (or if you spent time in well-appointed dorms or weed shops in the early 2000s), you’ve probably tried a Volcano before. It is in a way a rite of initiation into the stoner: the act of circulating the detachable balloon filled with cannabis vapor, enjoying tasty puffs.
I should probably admit that I own a Volcano, which was bought from a guy on Craigslist several years ago. I use it several times a week (okay, several times a day), and it shows no signs of slowing down, thanks to advanced German engineering in its cone-shaped base.
I to have had to replace the ball several times. But the balloons only cost about ten dollars each. As well as replacing the balloon (maybe every two years, when you notice steam coming out of it), your Volcano should last forever, with no maintenance required.
I also believe the volcano is one of the healthiest ways to smoke, period. Thanks to its innovative design, no heat enters your lungs. This sets the Volcano Desktop vaporizer apart from almost every other vape ever invented (and, obviously, all smoking methods). When you flip the switch, heat passes over the cannabis equipment you put in the shielded chamber. But you’re not inhaling anything yet. You just watch your balloon inflate and expand as it fills with vapor.
(Pro tip: Use your hands to gently help your balloon become vertical as it fills. This will help your balloon last longer.)
Then you detach the filled balloon and go to lie down where you want to relax with a little steam. Steam will not escape from the balloon until you are ready, as it can only be released when the mouthpiece is pushed in.
(Bonus: this design also makes the volcano PERFECT for anyone who likes to take a yoga session halfway through. Take an upside down puff? No problem, with your ball light and easy.)
The moment you take a sip of air from the ergonomic mouthpiece, the vapor is fully cooled. The heat is gone, but the flavor remains. Your lungs will be delighted.
The only downside is that the Volcano is not designed to be portable. Although I know someone in the early 2000s who on road trips would plug their Volcano into their car and forgo the balloon altogether: the steam would just fill the car. (We don’t recommend it, for obvious reasons.)
But I like that it’s called a “desktop” vaporizer, like it belongs to a desk.
This Volcano includes an LED display to change the temperature, which makes it much more chic than my Volcano. (On older models, just turn a knob.) I like to turn up the heat when I vaporize the same ground herb a second time, to get as much of the good as possible.
This set also comes with a âliquid padâ for vaporizing the concentrates.
If you love to enjoy cannabis at home, you will love your Volcano for many years to come. I know I will.
