Make up your mind! Weekend wintry wind gives way to spring next week

ROANOKE, Va. – The pattern of heat waves during the week and cold waves at the weekend continues (pretty unfair if you ask me).
A swirling area of low pressure in the Upper Midwest is sending a cool breeze our way Friday.
In addition, scattered showers will develop in the afternoon and evening. The cold air above the surface could allow the fall of small hailstones or graupel (cool drops melted on falling snowflakes).
Be sure to gear up for the Xfinity Series race in Martinsville. It will be in the 50s at the scheduled start time but falling into the 40s.
The same can be said for the Salem Red Sox home opener against the Lynchburg Hillcats.
As Saturday approaches, this same area of low pressure will bring cold winds to the region. Scattered flurries of snow will be possible, especially if you head west from the parkway.
The only accumulation hit will be confined to our west facing slopes, such as Whitetop, Quinwood, Snowshoe, Blue Grass/Monterey, etc.
A d
Aside from that four-letter word comes cold. If the wind calms down sufficiently on Sunday and Monday morning, a spring frost will develop. If you have plants outside, be sure to cover them.
After the weekend, however, the model pulls a full 180 on us!
The high to the east and the low to the west will result in a breeze from the southwest. This will lead to some hot days with a few spurious showers in the mix.
The risk of showers and thunderstorms increases on Thursday next week.
