The 94th Annual Academy Awards is officially underway and the glamor is overwhelming – in the best possible way. Hollywood’s biggest stars are once again proving that there really are no limits when it comes to the fashion and beauty looks they can wear on the red carpet. When it comes to hairstyles, the Oscars tend to see a lot of royal hair moments in favor of more relaxed styles like beach waves – although there are certainly no hard and fast rules. Updos have long been a staple of events like the Oscars, but the updo hairstyles at the 2022 Oscars went above and beyond the call of duty.

From sleek buns to intricate braids to voluminous bouffants, celebrity hairstylists seem to be doing all they can to flex their skills this year — as they should! Zendaya, who usually goes for long and dramatic hairstyles, opted for a surprising updo, which further amped up the glamor of her unique two-piece ensemble. Stars like Vanessa Hudgens and Tracee Ellis Ross prove that slicked back buns will never go out of fashion, especially on the red carpet.

Ahead, check out the oh-so-stylish updo hairstyles that dominated the 2022 Oscars — and get ready to gasp.

Hudgens’ sleek top knot is undeniably chic, plus it’s the perfect way to show off her gorgeous jewelry. In a press release, hairstylist Danielle Priano said the inspiration behind the style was a “modernized Audrey Hepburn.”

She prepped Hudgens’ hair with Healthy SexyHair Fresh Hair Air Dry Styling Mousse, then added Irresistible Me #1b-2-4 dark ombre invisible clip-in hair extensions. I used invisible clips to ensure a sleek and clean look,” says Priano. “These were perfect as they are lightweight and space saving.”

Next, Priano added Big Sexy Hair Powder Play Volumizing and Texturizing Powder to loosen the hair a bit and help the extensions look more seamless. Next, she applied Style SexyHair Hard Up Hard Holding Gel and pulled the hair back into a ponytail. “I then twisted one inch sections of the ponytail and curled them all into a structured bun, pinned it in place, then used Big SexyHair Spray & Play Volumizing Hairspray to hold the bun and the hair in place,” says Priano. She finished the look with Healthy SexyHair Styling Paste to reduce flyaways.

Zendaya loves long, dramatic hairstyles, but for this year’s Oscars, she opted for a chic updo with lots of volume thanks to hairstylist Antoinette Hill. According to a press release, Hill started by prepping original 18-inch Hidden Crown clips with Joico’s Defy Damage Pro Series 1, then created dimension using Joico’s BlondeLife powder highlighter and 2 Joico LumiShine color formulas. Demi Liquid to achieve the perfect shade. “The hair is 100% human, so I had to match the colors for a seamless look,” Hill explains in the statement.

Next, Hill sprayed TRESemmé One Step Volume Mist on Zendaya’s hairline before drying and styling using the T3 AireBrush Duo on the medium setting with the round brush. She then applied TRESemmé Keratin Shine Serum from roots to ends.

For even more fullness, Hill attached three quirky 18-inch hidden crown clips to the back of the hair. Then she fixed the hair with soft elastic bangs and bobby pins in the back. “To complete the look, I pinched tendrils around the perimeter of the hair for added softness,” Hill explains, “and sprayed on TRESemmé Total Volume Hairspray to achieve all-day hold while maintaining lift and shine. volume.”
