Asked by the host of the evening how the javelin happened to him, Neeraj Chopra replied in Hindi: “God has decided for me. I used to play different sports in my village (Khandra). But once I got down to the ground and saw some seniors throw the javelin in the air, I joined them. I didn’t even know what the javelin was. It started like that and now I’m here in front of you.
The next question he was asked was whether his past long hairstyle was inspired by actor Shah Rukh Khan or cricketer Ishant Sharma. To this, Neeraj Chopra said, “Koi nahi (None). Main khud hi apne baal lambe rakhta hun (No inspiration. I just wear my hair long).

In a recent event congratulating him on his return from the Tokyo Olympics, Neeraj Chopra was asked about this hairstyle – which he no longer wears. Revealing that long hair was giving him problems, the Olympic gold medalist said: “Style baad mei ho jaayega, game pehle (style can come later, my game comes first)”. Before adding: “In a few competitions, it made me sweat and it ran over my eyes. I also tried using a headband, but it was falling off.
